Republican withdraws from council race; mayor addresses NPS reversal; Warner, Beyer blast House on aviation safety bill

Table of Contents

The April 21 council race may have just got simpler. Republican nominee Gerry Chandler texted us this afternoon to say he's out, citing "onerous financial disclosures." That leaves Sandy Marks, the Democratic nominee, and Frank Fannon, who is running as an Independent, as the only two candidates. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Mayor Gaskins addressed the National Park Service's reversal on the waterfront pump station this morning, saying that staff will present flood-mitigation alternatives to the council in March. And Sen. Warner and Rep. Beyer are pushing the House to revive an aviation safety bill that failed Monday—more than a year after the DCA crash that killed 67 people.

Here's what I've published today.
