Good morning, Alexandria.

Ninety-five years ago today, City Council appointed a commission to organize Alexandria's piece of the George Washington bicentennial — one of the first deliberate efforts to sell the city as a place to visit. Two weeks ago, Visit Alexandria marked 30 years with tourism topping $1 billion for a second straight year.

The School Board takes up its own pay tonight. A committee is recommending members go from $15,000 to $43,000 starting in 2028, citing a formula in the board's own regulation and salaries in Arlington and Fairfax. State law only allows the adjustment the year before an election year, and 2027 is one. The work session runs 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 1340 Braddock Place.

If you're riding Metro midday, build in time. Yellow and Blue trains run single-track between Pentagon City and Reagan National from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with 18 to 20 minutes between trains.

Here's what you need to know for Thursday, Oct. 1.
