The Alexandria Brief | Thursday, Oct. 8

Inside: ACPS scores rose almost everywhere, but three of 17 schools meet state expectations, the Beauregard trail starts three years late, and a book festival returns Sunday.

Good morning, Alexandria.

Two things at the School Board tonight. Staff will present state performance results showing scores rose at 16 of 17 schools, while only three are rated as meeting expectations — and the board is expected to name the next superintendent, two weeks ahead of schedule. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

City Council meets in closed session at 5:30 to interview search firms for an interim independent policing auditor, five days after Ameratu Kamara's resignation took effect.

And if you're riding Metro midday, build in time. Yellow and Blue trains run single-track between Pentagon City and Reagan National from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with 18 to 20 minutes between trains.

Here's what you need to know for Thursday, Oct. 8.
