ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Early voting for the Aug. 4 Dual Party Primary Election is open today in Alexandria, with two locations available Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and city data show thousands of residents have already participated.
As of July 16, 7,814 Democratic voters had either cast early in-person ballots or been sent mail-in ballots, according to the city's election dashboard — representing roughly 7.6% of Alexandria's 102,597 active registered voters. Of those, 2,694 ballots have been returned, 4,217 are still awaiting return, 32 need to be cured and 253 were marked undeliverable. Another 618 Democrats voted early in person.
Republican primary participation is considerably lower, reflecting Alexandria's heavily Democratic registration. A total of 1,061 Republican voters had been sent mail ballots or voted early as of July 16, with 287 ballots returned, 694 awaiting return and 32 early in-person votes cast.
The election includes a Democratic primary for the 8th District U.S. House seat and a Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Virginia voters may choose either ballot — but not both.
The Democratic primary for the 8th District House seat has five candidates, listed on the ballot in this order: Mo Seifeldein, Michael Christian Duffin, incumbent Don Beyer, Adam M. Dunigan and Lorena Thorne Bruner. The Republican Senate primary has three candidates: Bert Mizusawa, Kim Farington and David E. Williams.
Polling place changes on Election Day
Several Alexandria polling locations have been relocated for this election. If you normally vote at one of these locations, note the change before Election Day:
- Blessed Sacrament → North Quaker (1801 N. Quaker St.)
- City Hall → Lyles Crouch School (530 S. Saint Asaph St.)
- The View → Hope Way (2800 Hope Way)
- George Mason School → Trinity Church (2911 Cameron Mills Road)

Key deadlines
- Mail-in ballot request: Applications must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, July 24. Apply online at vote.elections.virginia.gov, download the form at alexandriava.gov/Elections, or call 703-746-4050.
- Completed mail ballots: Must be returned to the Office of Voter Registration by 7 p.m. on Aug. 4, or postmarked by Aug. 4 and received by noon on Aug. 7.
- Voter registration deadline: July 24. Same-day registration is available on Election Day via provisional ballot.
- Last day to vote early in person: Saturday, Aug. 1, at 5 p.m.

Ballot drop boxes
A secure outdoor drop box under 24-hour video surveillance is available in front of the Office of Voter Registration and Elections through Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Drop boxes will also be available at all polling places on Election Day, Aug. 4, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and at Beatley Library during early voting hours.
