ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Thousands of people filled Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray on Saturday for Art on the Avenue, turning out despite rain that persisted throughout the day.

Hundreds of artists displayed and sold their work along the avenue, and restaurants and shops along the street were packed with festivalgoers. On the field at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center, children took part in a variety of activities.

The Del Ray Business Association also used the festival to hold a group ribbon-cutting for businesses that have opened in the neighborhood over the past year.
