ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Two men have been sentenced to a combined 56 years of active incarceration for a sexual assault at an Alexandria hotel nearly four years ago, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
Ja'Real Wilkins, 37, of Alexandria, was sentenced July 9 to 40 years of active incarceration on two felony counts of rape and one felony count of forcible sodomy. Tysheem Boykins, 27, of Falls Church, was sentenced July 14 to 16 years on one felony count of forcible sodomy and one felony count of robbery by threat.
Both were convicted in trials by jury. Circuit Court Judge Heidi E. Meinzer sentenced Wilkins; Judge Kathleen M. Uston sentenced Boykins.
The charges stem from a report of a sexual assault in progress at a hotel in the 100 block of South Bragg Street on Sept. 25, 2022. The Alexandria Police Department led the investigation and determined two people committed sexual assaults, one of whom also committed a robbery.
On each rape count, the court sentenced Wilkins to 50 years with 35 suspended. On the forcible sodomy count, he received 50 years with 40 suspended. The sentences run consecutively.
Boykins received 35 years with 20 suspended on the forcible sodomy count and five years with four suspended on the robbery charge, also running consecutively.
Both men face supervised probation for the remainder of their lives, including compliance with mental health and substance abuse treatment, registration as sex offenders and completion of a sex offender program. Neither may contact the victim, and the court entered lifetime protective orders in both cases. Boykins was also ordered to complete a victim impact course and is barred from using alcohol or drugs.
Commonwealth's Attorney Bryan Porter said the lengthy prison terms will prevent the two from harming others and deter similar crimes, while acknowledging that no sentence can remedy what the victim experienced.
The cases were prosecuted by Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys Harsh Voruganti and Ashtyn McDaniel and investigated by Detective Kristina Loerch of the Alexandria Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
Both men are being held without bail at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center pending transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections.
