ALEXANDRIA, Va. — U.S. Sen. Mark Warner said Wednesday that he sent what he called a "fairly testy letter" to 25 of the largest technology companies, accusing them of failing to keep their promise to take down or clearly label AI-generated election fakes.

"They have hugely failed at this," Warner, D-Va., said on his regular call with Virginia reporters, held by Zoom from Washington.

Warner, an Alexandria resident, is seeking reelection Nov. 3 against Republican Bert Mizusawa, a retired Army general. He also discussed cost of living, staffing shortages at Veterans Affairs facilities in Virginia, Americans held in Russia and license plate reader cameras.
