ALEXANDRIA, Va. — U.S. Sen. Mark Warner said Thursday that Virginia’s elections are secure and that votes will be counted, while warning that President Donald Trump could use intelligence claims in the final weeks before the midterms to cast doubt on the results.

“Our elections are safe because they are run by local governments and by the state, not by the federal government,” Warner, D-Va., said on a call with Virginia reporters. “They are decentralized.”

Warner is on the ballot himself. He is seeking reelection against Republican Bert Mizusawa, a retired Army general.
