ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Drivers on northbound Interstate 395 should expect overnight single-lane closures on most weekends starting Friday night as crews rehabilitate a bridge along a stretch that runs between Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.

The closures affect the northbound general-purpose lanes on a bridge over the ramp to the 395 Express Lanes, at about Mile Marker 2. The work zone spans the area between Edsall Road, which is in Fairfax County, and Duke Street, which is in Alexandria. The closures run on weekend nights through Sunday, Aug. 9, with the July Fourth holiday weekend excluded, according to VDOT.

Closures generally run from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday and from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. The right lane is set to close on the earlier weekends and the left lane on the later ones.

The right lane is scheduled to be closed overnight on these weekends:

  • Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28
  • Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12
  • Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19

The left lane is scheduled to be closed overnight on these weekends:

  • Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26
  • Friday, July 31 to Sunday, Aug. 2
  • Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9

VDOT urged drivers to use caution in the work zone, watch for new traffic patterns and limit distractions. Real-time traffic and work-zone information is available at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the free 511Virginia app, or by calling 511 anywhere in the state.
