Alexandria extends comment period on Duke Street draft recommendations to Sept. 15

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Residents now have until Sept. 15 to comment on the working draft recommendations for the Duke Street Land Use Plan, the city announced Friday, extending the deadline by nearly four weeks.

The city released the recommendations and their accompanying figures and maps on July 20. At an Aug. 5 community meeting, planning staff said they were still willing to revise the proposals, agreeing to revisit building heights at the Mason at Van Dorn site and whether retail-street sidewalks could accommodate e-bikes and scooters. In announcing the extension, staff said the additional time is meant to ensure community members can provide meaningful feedback.

Comments can be submitted three ways: through an interactive digital version of the recommendations, maps and figures on the city's Engagement Hub at alexandriava.mysocialpinpoint.com/draft-recommendations; by email to Urban Planner Christian Brandt; or by requesting a staff presentation for an organization, association or community group, also arranged through Brandt.

The documents are available for download at alexandriava.gov/DukeStreetPlan.
