All four members of Alexandria's General Assembly delegation will join the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, March 19 — just five days after the General Assembly is set to adjourn — to reflect on the 2026 legislative session and look ahead to challenges facing the region.
The annual General Assembly Breakfast, presented by Transurban, runs from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town. The full delegation includes Sen. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker and Majority Leader Del. Charniele Herring, along with Dels. Alfonso Lopez and R. Kirk McPike. Bennett-Parker and McPike are both attending in new roles — Bennett-Parker was sworn into the Senate after winning the SD39 special election in February, and McPike took her former House District 5 seat in the same election.
Last year's breakfast centered on federal layoffs and their projected impact on Northern Virginia's economy, with the delegation warning of a potential 9.6% unemployment rate in the 8th Congressional District. The 2026 session comes as those economic pressures continue to shape state budget discussions.
The delegation is expected to break down legislation from the session with the greatest impact on the Alexandria community, share behind-the-scenes accounts of key debates and negotiations, and address topics including the state budget, education, transportation, public safety, and economic development.
Tickets are $55 for members and $75 for prospective members. Registration is available at thechamberalx.com. Attendees who wish to submit questions in advance may email Maria Ciarrocchi at mciarrocchi@thechamberalx.com.
Disclosure: The Alexandria Brief is a paying member of The Chamber ALX and a member of the chamber's Inner Circle, which represents members whose support through sponsorship, board representation, committee involvement and dues reach ascending achievements.
