City, police department to host MLK Day hiring event Monday
Alexandria police to conduct on-the-spot assessments for prospective officers
More than 200 people have registered for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day job fair and community service event on Monday in Alexandria.
“Building the Dream Together,” hosted by Shiloh Baptist Church and the city of Alexandria, will connect residents with employment opportunities and public service careers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School, 1501 Cameron St.
“By bringing employers, service organizations, and public safety professionals together in one place, we are creating real-time connections that can lead to immediate opportunity, while also building a pipeline of talent dedicated to serving Alexandria now and into the future,” city officials said.
The event is open to job seekers at any stage of their career, whether just starting out or looking to make a change, according to the city.
The Alexandria Police Department will conduct on-the-spot assessments for prospective police officers, offering qualified candidates a direct entry point into a public safety career.
City agencies, nonprofit partners, and local businesses will participate in the free event, which organizers say reflects a citywide commitment to workforce development and community investment.
Attendees can participate in workshops on mastering the 30-second pitch, healthcare hiring trends, tech careers, personal branding in a digital world, and what recruiters look for in candidates.
