The Alexandria Brief | Thursday, Oct. 15

Inside: DASH’s board picks the smaller cut package, a hydrofoil ferry pitch puts Old Town on the map, and ICE arrests the former bakery worker in the Gustave camera case.

Alexandria, Va. news and information you won’t find anywhere else.

Good morning, Alexandria.

DASH’s board chose the smaller of two cut packages Wednesday night, voting 7-4 to send $2.5 million in service reductions to a Nov. 12 public hearing and rejecting deeper cuts that would have eliminated three bus lines to repay the city $1 million. Line 31 would leave Old Town and Line 30 would stop short of Van Dorn Metro. The board also pressed staff on why the federal equity analysis comes after the cuts, not before.

In today’s edition: regional leaders heard a pitch for a hydrofoil ferry that could reach Navy Yard from Old Town in 20 minutes, with Mayor Alyia Gaskins calling it a missed opportunity to leave Old Town out while asking how the city’s old concerns would be addressed. And federal immigration agents arrested the former Gustave Boulangerie employee convicted in August in the hidden camera case.

Here’s what you need to know for Thursday, Oct. 15.
