Del Ray Chili Cook Off returns Feb. 28 to support Mount Vernon school pantry
Event at Commonwealth Academy benefits La Tiendita, a resource center for students and families
The Del Ray Citizens Association is bringing back its annual Chili Cook Off on Saturday, Feb. 28, with proceeds benefiting Mount Vernon Community School’s La Tiendita.
The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Commonwealth Academy, 1423 Leslie Ave.
La Tiendita, established in 2024, serves as a resource center where families can access non-perishable food, hygiene products, school supplies, and clothing. The goal: ensure every student has what they need to arrive at school ready to learn.
How it works
The cook off is open to anyone who lives or works in Del Ray, but space is limited. Individual and team entries are welcome, with contestants competing for trophies and neighborhood bragging rights. Entries will be judged by Mount Vernon Community School's “celebrity judges.” All entrants receive a limited-edition 2026 apron.
Attendees can sample chili from competitors and enjoy beer from Port City Brewing Company (21+). Pizza and snacks will also be sold, including Jet’s Pizza, treats from Rolling Sloanes Bakery, and kid-friendly options.
The evening includes live music from Blue Dərth, a 50/50 raffle, and a special appearance by Jet Man from Jet’s Pizza.
