Bagel Uprising, the Del Ray bagel shop known for its boiled-and-baked bagels, announced Monday it will open a second location in Arlington's Ballston neighborhood this spring.

The shop shared the news on Instagram, writing that the new store will be at the corner of Fairfax Drive and North Vermont Street.

"Sesame, Poppy, and the rest of the gang are heading to Ballston this spring!" the post read.

The expansion marks a new chapter for the business, which got its start in 2015 when its founders began making bagels in their home kitchen in response to what they saw as a lack of authentic bagels in the neighborhood. Bagel Uprising made its debut that year at the Four Mile Run Farmer's Market, bringing 100 bagels the first week and steadily increasing production from there.

The operation moved from home ovens to pop-ups in local restaurant kitchens before opening its permanent home at 2307A Mount Vernon Ave. in the heart of Del Ray in 2019.

The Ballston location will be the shop's first expansion beyond Alexandria.
