Family of teen struck by driver on North Van Dorn Street launches GoFundMe

The family of a 15-year-old struck by a driver on North Van Dorn Street has launched a GoFundMe that has raised more than $23,000.

Subhan was walking with friends near Holmes Run Parkway when he was struck by a driver around 6 p.m., according to the fundraiser organized by his cousin. He was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The family, who immigrated from Afghanistan in 2024, says Subhan remains in a medically induced coma. He suffered injuries to his head, leg, and spine, and underwent surgery for bleeding in the brain, according to the GoFundMe.

The fundraiser alleges the driver was intoxicated and speeding. The Alexandria Police Department has not confirmed those details and said the incident remains under active investigation.

Subhan’s parents and older brother have been out of work since the crash, according to the organizer. Donations will support medical bills, rent, rehabilitation, and lost wages.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the campaign had received more than 460 donations.
