All charges described in this article are allegations. Timothy Valentin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

A 30-year-old Prince George's County, Maryland man and former Metropolitan Police Department officer was indicted Monday on a new set of felony charges in Alexandria, as prosecutors in multiple jurisdictions announced an expanding investigation into allegations that he used dating apps to meet women, adulterated their drinks, and sexually assaulted them while they were incapacitated. Alexandria police described Valentin as a serial sexual assault suspect.

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire, joined Monday by prosecutors and law enforcement officials from Prince George's County, announced that an Alexandria grand jury returned a superseding indictment this morning against Timothy Valentin, significantly expanding the charges he has faced since his arrest in December 2025. An attorney for Valentin was not identified at the press conference and could not be reached for comment.

The original investigation

The Alexandria Police Department began investigating Valentin in 2025 after the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department referred a sexual assault case it determined had originated in Alexandria. Detectives worked through the summer before presenting the matter to Commonwealth's Attorney Bryan Porter's office.

On December 8, 2025, an Alexandria grand jury indicted Valentin on five felony charges tied to an alleged assault in April 2025 — including rape by force, rape by physical incapacity or helplessness, forcible sodomy, adulteration of a beverage, and abduction with intent to defile. Three days later, Alexandria police entered Valentin's information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a wanted felon.

Within hours, an APD license plate reader flagged a vehicle registered to Valentin moving through the city. Officers conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody. A judge subsequently denied bond, and Valentin has remained held at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center since December 11, 2025.

During the December arrest, investigators seized Valentin's cell phone. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives conducted a forensic examination of its contents.

"That search revealed a significant amount of evidence that the defendant may have engaged in numerous sexual assault offenses in both Maryland and Virginia," said Porter.

Prosecutors say the phone's contents prompted coordination with Prince George's County authorities and led to the charges announced today. Porter declined to detail the specific evidence, citing rules of professional conduct that restrict attorneys from making public statements that could interfere with a jury trial.

Superseding indictment: three additional alleged cases in Virginia

This morning, the Alexandria grand jury returned a superseding indictment charging Valentin in connection with three additional alleged assaults in Virginia:

  • Case 1: Nine felony counts related to two separate alleged assaults against the same survivor — one allegedly occurring March 7–8, 2025, and another on March 10, 2025 — including four counts of rape, two counts of forcible sodomy, one count of aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of object sexual penetration. Valentin was additionally charged with 15 counts of unlawful filming or videotaping in connection with this case.
  • Case 2: Four felony counts — rape by force, rape by physical incapacity or helplessness, adulteration of a beverage, and abduction with intent to defile — related to an alleged assault occurring March 28–29, 2025.
  • Case 3: Four identical felony counts related to an alleged assault occurring November 10–11, 2025.

The original five-count case remains on the docket, with a jury trial currently scheduled for August 3-7, 2026 in Alexandria Circuit Court. The superseding indictments have not yet been set for trial. Porter noted that additional charges may be lodged as the investigation continues.

Porter emphasized to reporters that the grand jury indictment itself is not evidence that Valentin committed any offense and should not be treated as such. "Any citizen charged with a criminal offense is presumed to be innocent," he said.

If convicted, the maximum penalty for each count of rape, forcible sodomy, object sexual penetration, and abduction with intent to defile is life in prison. Each count of adulteration of a beverage carries up to 20 years. The unlawful filming counts are Class 1 misdemeanors, carrying a maximum of 12 months each.

Prince George's County: six alleged survivors, charges pending

Prince George's County Deputy Police Chief Todd Lightner said Alexandria authorities contacted his department's special crimes sexual assault unit in late January 2026 after APD's investigation identified potential cases in Maryland.

"We immediately launched an extensive investigation which has now resulted in charges against Valentin in connection with six survivors in our county," Lightner said. The alleged incidents took place in various locations in Prince George's County between 2024 and 2025. Three of the six cases have been charged; three remain under review.

State's Attorney Tara H. Jackson said her office is conducting a thorough review of the evidence before deciding whether to seek a grand jury indictment on the pending charges. "Anyone who is charged with a crime is entitled to due process through our judicial system," Jackson said. "My job as the state's attorney is to ensure that there is a fair and transparent process."

When a reporter asked whether there were at least 10 known survivors between the two jurisdictions, officials did not confirm a specific number, citing the active and ongoing nature of the investigation. When asked separately how many survivors had come forward in Alexandria specifically, McGuire declined to provide a number.

A third jurisdiction: Takoma Park

The investigation extends into Montgomery County as well. According to a report by WJLA, the Takoma Park Police Department launched its own investigation on February 5, 2026, after being notified by Alexandria police.

Takoma Park police say one of the alleged assaults occurred on April 7, 2025. According to WJLA, citing a Takoma Park PD news release, Valentin allegedly met the victim at Blue Sunday's Bar & Grill in Bowie before the two traveled to Society Restaurant & Lounge in Silver Spring. Investigators say Valentin then transported the victim to the 7600 block of Hammond Avenue in Takoma Park, where the alleged assault occurred.

Takoma Park police identified Valentin as a suspect in alleged assaults in Alexandria and in both Montgomery and Prince George's counties, according to WJLA. Investigators noted that Valentin is known to have used multiple aliases with his victims.

Alleged method of operation

Across jurisdictions, investigators described a similar pattern in the alleged offenses. Valentin is accused of meeting women on online dating platforms, arranging in-person dates, and allegedly adulterating their drinks. Prosecutors allege the women were then sexually assaulted while incapacitated.

"What I can tell you is that, as noted by myself and PG County, what we saw was a similarity — him meeting women on dating apps, taking them out for a date, and then ultimately after drinking, they becoming unconscious," McGuire said. He cautioned, however, that the method of operation across individual cases has not been confirmed as entirely consistent.

PGPD confirmed that Valentin is known to have used the aliases "Rico" and "Teo" with his victims.

Former law enforcement background

Valentin previously served as a sworn officer with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department before separating from the agency in 2022. Officials said they do not know the circumstances of his departure. Porter noted that, as of today, no evidence has been obtained indicating Valentin committed any offense while still employed as an officer.

When asked whether his law enforcement background may have played a role in the alleged crimes, McGuire said the investigation has not confirmed that at this stage and declined to elaborate further.

"This badge represents the justice that we all stand for," McGuire said. "These actions do not reflect law enforcement."

A call for anyone with information to come forward

All four officials directed closing remarks toward potential survivors or witnesses who have not yet come forward, noting that Valentin may have gone by different names.

"Your voice matters. We will listen. We will take every report seriously," McGuire said.
