Here's how to cut your Alexandria stormwater fee in half

The city of Alexandria will host two webinars this week on its Stormwater Utility Fee Credit Program, which allows residents, businesses and property owners to reduce their stormwater fees by up to 50 percent for two years.

A business-focused session is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A resident-focused session will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Both sessions cover the same information, according to a city news release.

The program rewards property owners who take steps to reduce runoff, improve water quality and protect local waterways, according to the release. The stormwater utility fee funds the city’s stormwater management program, which works to reduce pollution into local waterways, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay, according to the city’s website.

The credit application window is open from Dec. 1 through Feb. 15 each year. Eligible practices are outlined in the city’s recently updated Stormwater Utility Fee Credit Manual, available on the city’s website.

Register here for Wednesday’s webinar, a collaboration with the Eco-City Business Program that will focus on how businesses can manage stormwater and earn credits while reducing costs, according to the release.

Register here for Thursday’s session, hosted by the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services’ Stormwater Management Division, which will cover eligible practices, how to apply for credits and include a live question-and-answer session with city staff.
