ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The team behind Kingley Cafe at 910 King Street is seeking city approval to add an outdoor patio in the parking lane adjacent to the building, roughly a year after securing the permit to open the cafe itself.

Kingley Cafe, LLC, represented by Kahan S. Dhillon Jr., received an administrative special use permit for the new restaurant in May 2025. The latest application, posted Monday, would add roughly 457 square feet of outdoor dining on the west side of 910 King Street.

The proposed layout, detailed in plans by Sanchez Palmer Architects, calls for a temporary composite-decking platform with three patio tables seating four each, portable screens with raised planters, three patio heaters and either arched pergolas or umbrellas with string lighting overhead. All components would be removable.

Proposed hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The block sits in the King Street Urban Retail (KR) zone. The application is filed under Special Use Permit #2026-00011 and may be approved administratively by the Director of Planning and Zoning under Section 11-500 of the city's Zoning Ordinance, meaning it does not require a Planning Commission hearing unless concerns are raised.

The last day for public comment is June 4. Comments can be directed to City Planner Lanning Blaser at lanning.blaser@alexandriava.gov or 703-746-4666. More information is available on the city's Administrative Special Use Permits webpage.
