Matt and Tony's All Day Kitchen + Bar lands spot on Yelp's Top 100 US Restaurants list
The Del Ray comfort food spot is one of four Washington-area restaurants to make Yelp's annual ranking
An Alexandria eatery with roots tracing back to the Waldorf Astoria has earned a place among the nation’s best restaurants, according to Yelp’s annual ranking.
Matt and Tony’s All Day Kitchen + Bar secured the No. 100 spot on Yelp’s Top 100 US Restaurants 2026, the review platform’s 13th annual list announced Tuesday, highlighting the highest-reviewed dining establishments across the country.
The 127-seat Del Ray restaurant, which opened in March 2022 on Mount Vernon Avenue, serves scratch-made American comfort food, including chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and braised ribs. The spot offers indoor and outdoor dining with an all-day brunch menu, dinner, and a full lineup of cocktails, mocktails, local beers, and wines. It holds a 4.5-star rating on Yelp with more than 1,100 reviews.
The “Tony” in the name honors owner Matt Schabas’ great-grandfather, Anton “Tony” Schabas, an Austrian pastry chef who arrived in the United States aboard a German cruise ship. According to the restaurant, Tony jumped ship in New York, landed a job at the Waldorf Astoria, and his rye bread became so renowned that President John F. Kennedy once had it delivered to the White House.
The list, which ranks restaurants based on total volume and ratings of reviews, features a mix of fine-dining establishments, food halls, counter-service spots, and casual cafes spanning 34 states.
Matt and Tony’s joins a diverse group of honorees that includes Ci Siamo, a Danny Meyer Italian restaurant in New York that claimed the top spot, and Taste of Texas, a 50-year-old Houston steakhouse that landed at No. 2.
The Alexandria restaurant is one of several Washington-area spots to make the cut. Georgetown Seafood in the District ranked No. 56, while Northern Virginia neighbors Fountain Grill in Ashburn (No. 78) and Chay Restaurant in Falls Church (No. 68) also earned recognition.
Texas led all states with 17 restaurants on the list, followed by California with nine and New York with five. About 65% of this year’s honorees are priced under $30 per person, according to Yelp.
