Updated 7:45 a.m. — Dominion restored the largest of the four outages, in Rosemont and Taylor Run, cutting the citywide total from 10,407 to 6,946 in about 15 minutes. Three large outages remain, in Del Ray, Northeast Alexandria and Old Town North. Alexandria still accounts for nearly every active Dominion outage in Virginia.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — More than 10,000 Dominion Energy customers in Alexandria lost power Tuesday morning, four days after storms knocked out service across the city and the region.
Dominion's outage map showed 10,407 Alexandria customers out as of 7:15 a.m., about 15% of the 71,478 the utility serves in the city. That is more than the 9,127 recorded at the peak of Friday's storm outages.
By 7:31 a.m. the count had fallen to 6,946 after the largest of the four outages, covering Rosemont, Taylor Run and Janney's Lane, was restored. That outage had affected 3,598 customers.
Unlike Friday, this one is almost entirely Alexandria's. The utility reported 7,108 customers out across Northern Virginia and 7,411 statewide at 7:31 a.m., meaning the city accounts for nearly every active Dominion outage in Virginia. Arlington had 22 customers out. Fairfax County had 122.
Three large outages remain:
- 2,786 customers in Northeast Alexandria and toward Potomac Yard, with restoration estimated between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and crews dispatched.
- 2,153 customers in Northeast Alexandria and Old Town North, estimated 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., crews dispatched.
- 1,870 customers around Del Ray and Potomac, estimated between noon and 3 p.m., with crews awaiting assignment.
Dominion listed the cause of all four as pending investigation. The utility has not said whether the outages are related to one another or to Friday's storms.
The city had not issued an advisory as of 7:45 a.m., and ACPS has not said whether any schools are affected. Alexandria City Public Schools is in session Tuesday.
Drivers should treat intersections with dark traffic signals as four-way stops.
Outages and downed lines should be reported to Dominion at 1-866-366-4357 or through the utility's app or website. Residents can call 311 to report storm-related issues, or 703-746-4444 to report downed trees. The city does not control the grid or restoration timing.
