Nine Alexandria deputy sheriffs graduated Monday from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy, marking the completion of Session 153’s Deputy School.
Sheriff Sean Casey, accompanied by members of his command and training staff, attended the ceremony in Sterling to welcome the new graduates to the force.
The deputies successfully completed 10 weeks of basic training alongside classmates from the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. The curriculum focused heavily on jail operations and court security.
Key components of the training included emergency vehicle operations, firearms training, control tactics, and physical fitness and wellness. The session also covered active bystandership, basic legal training, inmate supervision, first aid, cell and person searches, and strategies for effectively serving diverse communities.
Several Alexandria deputies received special recognition during the ceremony. Deputy Vidalina Morales achieved the second-highest academic score in the class, while Deputy Shakayla Farmer earned the third-highest score.
Additionally, Farmer and Deputy Desmond Robinson served as members of the honor guard that presented the colors during the graduation proceedings.

Following graduation, the new deputies will complete field training at the sheriff’s office before beginning their regular assignments at the Adult Detention Center.
The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is composed of 202 deputies and professional employees under the direction of Sheriff Casey. The office is responsible for the operation of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, security at the Alexandria Courthouse, prisoner transportation, and the service of court legal documents and execution of court orders.
The agency holds accreditations from the American Correctional Association, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The office is currently recruiting for new deputies.
