Good morning, Alexandria.

Art on the Avenue is today, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mount Vernon Avenue between Hume and Bellefonte — more than 350 artists, live music, food, children's activities and a pie-baking contest, all free. Police have closed the 1900 through 2800 blocks of Mount Vernon and the 100 block of East Bellefonte until 8 p.m., with the 2300 and 2400 blocks and the 200 block of East Oxford closed since 5 a.m. Commonwealth Avenue stays open. Here's everything else happening this weekend.

In today's edition: the city's independent policing auditor resigned Friday, and council approved five months of severance in a two-minute meeting without saying why. The T&ES director took half the Traffic and Parking Board's recommendation on Russell Road. And Gov. Abigail Spanberger accepted the Breaking Barriers Award at the NAACP's Freedom Fund dinner.

Here's what you need to know for Saturday, Oct. 3.
