Election Day is just about two weeks away — and more than 10,000 of Alexandria's 102,597 registered voters have already cast a ballot.

According to the city's election dashboard, as of Thursday, April 2, 5,442 voters had cast ballots early in person, and 5,205 mail-in ballots had been returned, for a combined total of 10,647 votes already recorded — roughly 10.4% of the electorate. An additional 5,044 mail-in ballots have been sent but have not yet been returned.

The numbers reflect significant early engagement in a race with three candidates competing for the city council seat left open when Kirk McPike resigned in January to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates. Voters will also decide a proposed statewide constitutional amendment on congressional redistricting.

Candidate forum this Saturday

The League of Women Voters of Arlington and Alexandria City is hosting a virtual candidate forum this Saturday, April 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All three candidates — Democratic nominee Sandy Marks and independents Frank Fannon and Alison Virginia O'Connell — are expected to participate. Voters can register to attend and submit questions in advance at eventbrite.com. A Zoom webinar link will be provided upon registration.
