What's happening in Alexandria this weekend: Feb. 20-22

Another busy weekend is on tap for Alexandria.

Friday starts rainy with areas of dense fog, but skies clear by the afternoon with highs near 58. Saturday looks pleasant — partly sunny with highs in the mid-50s — just in time for Democrats to cast ballots in the firehouse primary to pick their candidate for an open City Council seat. Five candidates are vying for the nomination.

Rain returns Sunday with highs in the low 40s and a chance of snow Sunday night.

Black History Month celebrations continue with a grown-up field trip to Freedom House Museum on Friday evening, followed Saturday by a panel on the history and politics of Black lawyers in Virginia, the National African American Read-In, the opening of the Elrich Murphy Photograph Collection and a poetry slam and open mic at Charles Houston Recreation Center.

Looking for something lighter? Catch Mardi Gras festivities at Aslin ALX or School of Rock at the Little Theatre of Alexandria.

Here’s everything on the calendar this weekend.
