ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Alexandria's waterfront kicks into high gear this weekend with Sails on the Potomac, the city's marquee America 250 celebration. The free, three-day festival opens Friday at noon with four historic tall ships—the Kalmar Nyckel, Gazela, Sultana, and Alexandria's own Providence—lining City Marina. Timed tour tickets are claimed, but walk-up lines are available daily if you're willing to wait.
Friday night brings Crab Shack Live's 10-year anniversary bash at 6 p.m., with vocalist Sy Smith and saxophonist Langston Hughes II headlining the Del Ray creative hub's celebration.
The 48th ALX Jazz Fest runs all weekend with live music, 30-plus local museums in history villages, Alexandria Pipes and Drums, student poetry readings, and shipbuilding demonstrations. If you're celebrating Pride Month, King & Rye's Drag Brunch Saturday is a must.
The weekend's showstopper? Fireworks launching from a barge on the Potomac at 9 p.m. Saturday. Sunday wraps things up with more jazz and village activities through 6 p.m.
And if you're a World Cup fan, local spots like Old House Cosmopolitan and Atlas Brew Works are running watch parties. Check visitalexandria.com/world-cup for the full list.
