ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria's top elections official said Wednesday that the city's election officers met the demands of a year with four elections. Her office now turns to counting the last ballots from Tuesday's general election.

"Conducting four elections in one calendar year is no small feat, yet the amazing team of election officers rose to the challenge every election," Angie Maniglia Turner, Alexandria's director of elections and general registrar, said in an email to The Alexandria Brief.

Alexandria voters went to the polls Feb. 10, April 21 and Aug. 4 before Tuesday's general election. Democrats also picked nominees for both special elections in three firehouse primaries, which the party, not the elections office, runs.
