ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The city's Office of Housing is accepting applications for a lottery to buy one of four affordable condominiums at the Residences at Tidelock, a new 65-unit building in Old Town North.

The affordable units are open to income-eligible, first-time homebuyers who live or work in Alexandria. They include one one-bedroom unit, one one-bedroom-plus-den unit and two two-bedroom units, one of which is designed as an accessible unit. The homes, at 1111 N. Fairfax St., are expected to be available in August.

Because the city anticipates more interest than units, buyers will be chosen by lottery rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. The application window opened May 23 and runs through 5 p.m. June 22.

Applications are submitted online through Smartsheet and must include a completed homebuyer application form, a copy of the applicant's mortgage preapproval letter and a Virginia Housing homebuyer training certificate, earned by completing a Virginia Housing homebuyer education class. Paper application forms are available on request at the Office of Housing, 100 N. Pitt St., Suite 425, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city advises applicants to review the eligibility requirements and process on its Homebuyer Resources webpage before applying. The application link and details are posted at alexandriava.gov/housing.

Questions about the units can be directed to Kaye Placeres of Urban Pace at 571-201-7114 or TidelockADU@urbanpace.com. Residents who need a disability accommodation can contact Gabriella DiLena at 703-746-3089 or Virginia Relay 711, and free interpretation and translation services are available by emailing LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or calling 703-746-3960.
