ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Glen Pine, an Alexandria data scientist and political organizer, announced Tuesday that he is running as a Democrat for the House of Delegates seat in District 5, according to a press release from his campaign.

The release says Pine "has officially filed his candidacy" for the 2027 race. It does not say what he filed or with whom.

Del. Kirk McPike, a Democrat, holds District 5 and won the Democratic firehouse primary in January and the Feb. 10 special election to succeed Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, who gave up the seat after running for state Senate. McPike defeated Republican Marvin Mason Butler in the special election, 7,114 votes to 1,495, or 82.18% to 17.27%, according to official results for the district's 18 Alexandria precincts posted on the state's election results website.

The release does not mention McPike. Asked by The Alexandria Brief for comment, McPike said in an email Tuesday that he will seek reelection.
