ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The city's annual Community Cookout series closes out its 2026 season tonight at the Ruby Tucker Family Center Courtyard, 322 Tancil Court, from 6-7:30 p.m. The rain date is Thursday, July 9.

Tonight's event will feature free food, fun activities, giveaways and a chance to meet neighbors and connect with community resources. More than 50 city agencies and nonprofit organizations participate in the cookout series, which has reached more than 20,000 residents since its inception.

The cookouts were started by two staff members from the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities with the goal of boosting program participation and increasing outreach to underserved communities. The effort has since grown into a citywide initiative supported by the City Manager's Office.

Tonight's stop at Ruby Tucker is the final cookout of the season. For more information and weather updates, visit alexandriava.gov/rpca/alexandria-community-cookouts.

Tonight's event was originally scheduled for May 21 but was cancelled due to rain. "Mother Nature has been keeping us on our toes," RPCA wrote at the time.
