ALEXANDRIA, Va. — An Arlington man has been indicted on an involuntary manslaughter charge in a December crash on King Street that killed a 78-year-old Alexandria driver, police said Friday.
Mohammad Mohammadi, 23, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving in connection with the Dec. 13 crash at King Street and South Taylor Street, the Alexandria Police Department said. The charges followed an investigation by the department's Crash Investigations Unit.
A City of Alexandria grand jury indicted Mohammadi on May 18 on one count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and one count of reckless driving. With help from the Arlington County Police Department, he was arrested May 19 and taken to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center, then released on bond, police said. His next court appearance is set for June 18.
Officers responded about 8 a.m. Dec. 13 to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital with injuries. One of them, Craig Taylor, 78, of Alexandria, later died. Mohammadi sustained serious injuries.
The crash closed a stretch of King Street between Menokin Drive and North Quaker Lane for hours while officers conducted their investigation.
Police thanked the Arlington County Police Department and the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Alexandria for their assistance in the investigation.
