City sets Oct. 21 open house on $1.6 million plan to shield two sewer lines from Holmes Run

One pipe’s casing is cracked and exposed and the other has been undermined by the stream, the city says. The meeting at the Ramsay Recreation Center is the first public session on the project.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Two sanitary sewer lines that cross Holmes Run just upstream of Interstate 395 are being damaged by the stream, and the city will hold its first public meeting on a fix next week.

The casing on the upstream line is cracked and broken, exposing the pipe, according to the city’s project page. The downstream line has been undermined by erosion.

The open house is Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the William Ramsay Recreation Center, 5650 Sanger Ave. City staff and the project team will explain the need for the work, its goals, the proposed improvements and the schedule, and take questions.
