ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A Lorton man has been indicted in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash that killed an Alexandria woman in April, the Alexandria Police Department announced Friday.
The Alexandria Grand Jury returned an indictment on July 15 charging Tekaligne Shirko, 46, of Lorton, with involuntary manslaughter and failure to yield to a pedestrian causing death. Shirko surrendered Thursday and is being processed through the Alexandria Adult Detention Center. A court date has not been set.
The victim, Norma Floyd-Sayles, 62, of Alexandria, was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North Saint Asaph Street and Montgomery Street on April 20 at approximately 5:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by Alexandria Fire Department medics.
The Alexandria Brief first reported the crash on April 20, noting that police had said at the time that the driver of a black Chevrolet Suburban had remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. APD's Crash Reconstruction Team subsequently conducted an extensive investigation before presenting the case to the Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

As this is an active criminal prosecution, APD said no additional information is available at this time.
