ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A pedestrian was killed Monday evening in a crash at the intersection of N. St. Asaph Street and Montgomery Street, the Alexandria Police Department said.

The department announced the fatal crash at 6:40 p.m. and said its Crash Reconstruction Unit had responded to the scene. The intersection was closed as the investigation got underway, and police asked drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the pedestrian or provide details about the vehicle or driver involved. No information was released about what led to the crash.

The fatal crash came a little more than two hours after police closed another city street for an unrelated incident. At 4:19 p.m., the department announced that King Street at Hermitage Court had been shut down due to a vehicle fire and urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Police did not release additional details about the fire, including whether anyone was injured.

The Alexandria Brief has reached out to the Alexandria Police Department for more information on both incidents and will update this story as details become available.
