Fatal crashes are down on Alexandria's city streets. Severe injury crashes are up.

The city's goal is zero of both by 2028. Its annual report counts only the roads Alexandria maintains, not the state highways inside the city.

Every crash reported to police in Alexandria from 2017 through March 2026 — 11,183 of them — on the city’s Vision Zero crash dashboard. (City of Alexandria Vision Zero Crash Dashboard)

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Fatal crashes on Alexandria's city-maintained streets have fallen since 2020. Severe injury crashes have climbed, and the two most recent years account for half of the six-year severe injury total.

That is the picture in the city's Vision Zero FY 2026 annual report and work plan, presented to the Traffic and Parking Board on Monday night. The city's adopted goal, set when it passed its Vision Zero plan in 2017, is zero fatal and severe crashes by 2028.

The report counts 145 fatal and severe crashes between 2020 and 2025 — 17 fatal and 128 severe.
