ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Alexandria has hired Fatimah Dandashi, district director for Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, as its new legislative director, the city announced Monday.

Dandashi will start Oct. 26, less than four weeks before the Nov. 20 deadline for lawmakers to request drafts of bills they plan to prefile, and about 11 weeks before the 2027 General Assembly convenes Jan. 13.
