ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Life Alive Organic Cafe will open its Old Town location at 400 King Street on Tuesday, June 9, according to the company's social media.
Ahead of the opening, the cafe is inviting the community to a free "Patio Preview Party" on Sunday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to all, with no tickets required, according to posts on the restaurant's Instagram. It will feature free food and beverage samples, live music, prizes, face painting and a first look at the patio.
"A little sneak peek of what's coming to Alexandria next month," the cafe wrote in a post earlier this month, adding that "bold bowls, housemade sauces and scratch-made everything are almost ready" as the team works to "get every detail just right."
The cafe has been staffing up in recent weeks, posting barista openings and hosting an open interview day at the King Street space on May 20, according to its careers page. The Alexandria location is not yet listed on Life Alive's website, and the June 9 opening date has not been formally announced in a release. A company representative could not immediately be reached for comment.
The fast-casual chain filed a special use permit last fall to open at 400 King Street, at the corner of King and South Royal streets, in a building that also houses The Alexandrian Old Town Hotel. The roughly 3,250-square-foot cafe will seat about 70 indoors and 30 on the patio, and serve chef-crafted grain bowls, salads, ramen, wraps, pita sandwiches, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, wellness lattes and espresso drinks. No alcohol will be served.
The Old Town location will be Life Alive's second in Virginia and third in the greater D.C. area. The brand opened its first Virginia cafe in Arlington's Ballston neighborhood in November and a West End D.C. location in early 2025. Founded in Massachusetts in 2004, the company operates more than a dozen locations in its home state.
The cafe shares the redeveloped building with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, the Brooklyn-based ice cream chain, which is also slated to open at 400 King Street.
