The Little Theatre of Alexandria took home six awards at the 2025 WATCH Awards ceremony Sunday night, including top acting honors for a real-life mother and daughter who played mother and daughter on stage.
Sally Cusenza won outstanding featured performer in a play for her portrayal of Grandma in Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers," while her daughter Sarah Cusenza received outstanding lead performer in a play for her role as Bella in the same production. The pair's wins marked the evening's most heartwarming moment at the Birchmere in Alexandria.
"Lost in Yonkers" earned a third award for Ari McSherry's lighting design.
LTA's production of "The Play That Goes Wrong" also had a strong showing, winning outstanding play, outstanding ensemble (the Leta Hall award) and outstanding set construction for Jim Hutzler. Hutzler and the show's producer, Zell Murphy, are both Alexandria residents.
LTA President Eleanore Tapscott also took home hardware Sunday night, winning outstanding direction of a play for "The Mousetrap" at Providence Players of Fairfax. Tapscott will next appear on stage in LTA's upcoming production of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner."
The Washington Area Theatre Community Honors organization presented awards recognizing excellence among 28 community theater companies across the D.C. region.
