ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Save Jefferson-Houston, a parent and community group, said Friday it still opposes ending elementary grades at Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 School. Acting Superintendent Grace Taylor's proposed capital budget would convert the school into a middle school.
In a statement emailed to The Alexandria Brief, the group called for "a fresh look at emerging enrollment data, districtwide capacity needs, and the range of solutions available to serve Alexandria's students."
Taylor's proposed fiscal 2028-37 Capital Improvement Program, presented Thursday, would turn Jefferson-Houston into an 850-student middle school and Patrick Henry K-8 School into a K-5 school, with design in fiscal 2029 and construction in fiscal 2030. The $370.6 million, 10-year plan exceeds the city's guidance by $186.2 million.
