ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Acting Superintendent Grace Taylor on Thursday proposed a $370.6 million, 10-year capital budget for Alexandria City Public Schools. That is about twice the $184.4 million the city's guidance called for.
The proposed fiscal 2028-37 Capital Improvement Program exceeds the city's guidance in every year, by a total of $186.2 million, according to a budget summary in the presentation Taylor gave the School Board. The largest gaps fall in fiscal 2030 and 2031, when the Jefferson-Houston and Patrick Henry conversions and a new transportation facility would be under construction, and in fiscal 2037, when construction of a new Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology is scheduled, Taylor said. Fiscal 2037 alone accounts for $88.7 million, nearly half the total.
"I want to be transparent that this exceeds the city's guidance of $184.4 million by about $186.2 million," Taylor told the board.
