Alexandria's 16th annual Spring2ACTion blew past its $2.5 million goal by early Wednesday evening, and ACT for Alexandria is now asking donors to help push the 24-hour campaign to $3 million before midnight.
As of 7:50 p.m., the campaign's public dashboard showed $2,773,090 raised from 5,974 donors across 198 of the participating nonprofits, with 9,639 individual donations logged. That puts the total within striking distance of last year's record $3.1 million haul and more than triples the dawn tally of $912,810.
"Wow, we're blown away by the energy and collective giving going on around Alexandria," Brandi Yee, chief program officer for ACT for Alexandria, said in a statement to the Alexandria Brief. "Every donation makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors. For those who haven't given yet, there's still time. We're really hoping to raise $3 million."
The stretch-run push comes as organizations across the leaderboards log their highest totals of the day. Casa Chirilagua, the Arlandria-based family-support nonprofit, extended its citywide lead to $70,909 from 173 donors — leapfrogging all other organizations after a day of steady climbs. King Street Cats sat second at $53,595 from 356 donors, the highest donor count of any participating group. ALIVE! followed at $47,246 from 208 donors, the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association at $43,337 and Housing Alexandria at $33,169.
The Alexandria Singers ($31,616), Carpenter's Shelter ($30,368), the Campagna Center ($29,748), Homeward Trails Animal Rescue ($26,771) and the Alexandria Seaport Foundation ($24,447) rounded out the citywide top 10 by dollars.
Animal rescues continue to punch above weight
Alexandria's animal-welfare organizations remained one of the day's defining stories. King Street Cats led the medium-budget tier at 356 donors — the largest donor base of any single nonprofit in Spring2ACTion — and sat second citywide in total dollars. Homeward Trails Animal Rescue took second in the large-nonprofit tier at 238 donors and cracked the citywide top 10 at $26,771. Operation Paws for Homes Rescue pulled in $23,900 from just 43 donors, an average gift north of $550. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria ($106 donors) and Tails High ($83) also landed inside their respective tier top 10s.
Tier leaders
By donor count, the metric Spring2ACTion uses to crown winners in three budget-based tiers, the Alexandria Singers paced the 106-organization small tier at 337 donors, trailed by the Alexandria A Cappella Collective (250) and Titan Robotics of Alexandria City High School (115). King Street Cats topped the 35-organization medium tier at 356, with Casa Chirilagua (173) and the Alexandria Seaport Foundation (159) close behind. Housing Alexandria led the 55-organization large tier at 313 donors, followed by Homeward Trails Animal Rescue (238) and ALIVE! (208).
Free agents and early childhood
The campaign's reach has extended well beyond registered nonprofits. A total of 218 "free agent" fundraising pages — individuals, companies and informal teams raising money for a chosen organization — were active Wednesday evening, led by World Cup Special & More! at 83 donors, Reimagining Friendship Firehouse Museum (69) and Help Save Animals in 2026 (53).
Among the eight members of the new Kids' First Years early-childhood collective, ALIVE! led at 208 donors, followed by the Campagna Center at 120 and Kids' First Years itself at 48.
Context
Since its founding in 2011, Spring2ACTion — the only citywide giving day in the region — has drawn more than 75,000 donors and raised nearly $26 million for roughly 200 Alexandria nonprofits. Last year, nearly 8,000 donors contributed a record $3.1 million to more than 190 participating organizations. Organizers set this year's $2.5 million goal as local nonprofits navigated rising demand for services alongside funding challenges and reduced capacity, according to ACT for Alexandria.
Participating groups serve a broad swath of community needs, including housing and food assistance, workforce development, healthcare, arts and culture, animal care and environmental conservation.
Donations remain open through midnight at spring2action.org, where givers can search by cause or organization and give from any device.
