After announcing a winter hiatus on New Year's Day, The Garden in Del Ray is reopening its doors Friday, offering customers a welcome return to one of the neighborhood's most beloved outdoor gathering spots.
The venue, located at 1503 Mount Vernon Ave., kicks off its season with a soft launch Friday at 3 p.m., followed by full weekend hours beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The timing could hardly be better. Temperatures are expected to reach 55 degrees Friday under mostly sunny skies, climbing to a high of 63 Saturday — the warmest day of the weekend — before dipping back to 53 Sunday. Patrons should note that winds could gust up to 22 mph on Sunday, with mostly cloudy skies returning by early next week, along with a chance of snow on Monday.
The Garden announced the temporary closure on Jan. 1, telling patrons it would be "taking a brief winter break" before welcoming guests back.
"After a long, cold, snowy winter, there could not be a better time or better weather to welcome everyone back," The Garden said in a statement Friday. "We cannot wait to see familiar faces and full tables again."
The Del Ray Business Association, known as Visit Del Ray, touted the reopening as one of its "very favorite signs that spring is coming," noting the space is open to guests and their dogs.
The Garden has also announced a slate of upcoming events, including a St. Patrick's Day party on March 21, a Broken Filter Comedy Show on April 24 at 8 p.m., and the return of Trivia Tuesdays in April.
