ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Sixteen National Women’s Soccer League players will split into two teams and compete on a high school track field in Alexandria next month, in a made-for-television skills contest held the night before the league’s championship.
The NWSL Skills Challenge, presented by CarMax, runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, on the track field at Episcopal High School, 1200 N. Quaker Lane. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 through Eventbrite; the event is open to all ages.
It is the fourth year the league has staged the event, which travels with the championship — last year’s was at San Jose State’s Spartan Soccer Complex, for a $30,000 purse. It is also the only stop on this year’s announced championship week schedule that is not in Washington. The NWSL Awards are Nov. 18 at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, airing on ESPN2. A 5K and a fan festival are both at The Wharf on Nov. 21 — the race at 8 a.m., the festival at 3 p.m. and free with an RSVP.
