What's happening in Alexandria this weekend: July 24-26

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Alexandria rallies behind its rugby team this Sunday as Mayor Alyia Gaskins hosts a free, all-ages Mayors' Cup send-off celebration at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles from 12-3 p.m. Meet the players competing in Scotland this August for the first time with women's squads representing Alexandria in the historic match against sister city Dundee.

Beyond the rugby pitch, Alexandria celebrates history and culture with specialty tours exploring Civil War medicine and the Founding Fathers at Gadsby's Tavern Museum, a 1776 Singalong & Discussion Saturday at 7 p.m., and rare evening hours at the Apothecary Museum Friday and Sunday featuring a magical Harry Potter-inspired tour. The Live on Top of the Hill Concert Series brings folk and mariachi music Saturday at noon in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

The Alexandria Library offers hands-on fun with a community repair clinic Saturday morning and Preschool STEAM activities Sunday afternoon, while ongoing Plastic Free July bingo challenges encourage sustainable practices.

With pleasant weather and highs in the low to mid-80s, it's an ideal weekend to explore Old Town, support local events, and cheer on Alexandria's athletes heading to Scotland.
