Alexandria Union Station closes to cars starting Friday as Amtrak work cuts VRE trains short of Washington

No parking or drop-off at the station Oct. 16-26. VRE will end trains at L’Enfant Oct. 19-23, with the last morning train on each line stopping at Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Starting Friday, no one will be able to park at or drive up to Alexandria Union Station for 10 days, and starting Monday, Virginia Railway Express trains will stop short of Washington Union Station while Amtrak rebuilds a track junction.

Amtrak says vehicle access and parking at the Alexandria station will be closed from Oct. 16 through Oct. 26 because of a temporary street closure. Rideshare riders should use the pickup area on Diagonal Road.

The VRE schedule, posted this week, answers the question left open when Amtrak announced the outage in August. VRE said then it was working toward a timetable that served every station except Union Station.
