ALEXANDRIA, Va. — ALIVE!, Alexandria's largest organization working to prevent food and housing insecurity, announced a slate of new executive committee members Wednesday, with their terms taking effect July 1.

The incoming members are Dennis Warnke, who joins as treasurer, along with Michael Spatz, Annette Foster and Megan Cefferillo. Susan Pollack, a current executive committee member, has been elected secretary.

"I am so excited to usher in a new group of leaders to our executive committee," board President Carlton Willis said in a statement. "I have no doubt their experience and drive to help their neighbors in need will serve ALIVE! well in this new chapter."

The organization also recognized four outgoing members: Larry Thompson, the outgoing treasurer; Eric Winakur, a former ALIVE! president; Ellen Brown, a former president and chair of the governance committee; and Matt Zahn, the outgoing secretary. ALIVE! said the group helped advance its strategic priorities, strengthen partnerships and expand programs during their tenure.

"We are so grateful for the passion and new perspective these incoming board members have shown," Executive Director Jennifer Ayers said in a statement. "We are very grateful for the impact that the outgoing board members have given to ALIVE!"

Founded in 1969, ALIVE! says it serves about 20,000 Alexandrians each month through food, housing and financial assistance programs, drawing on an 18-member staff, 50 interfaith member congregations and thousands of volunteers. The organization runs two food hubs and a network of pantry partners, responds to financial emergencies to help prevent eviction, and provides essential items such as housewares and furniture.
