ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mayor Alyia Gaskins' Art in Every Space pilot has expanded to nine Alexandria businesses, with original works by local artists now on display at locations ranging from a Muay Thai gym on Duke Street to a brewery on Wheeler Avenue.
The Alexandria Brief has covered the initiative since its launch, including the July 7 opening reception at Corcoran McEnearney in Old Town and the second launch event July 8 at AV Actions on Wheeler Avenue.
The initiative, conceived by visual artist Robin Jordan, who serves as the task force lead, pairs artists with businesses in nontraditional spaces. More than 30 artists have submitted original works to date. The youngest participant is 4 years old.
Residents can pick up a Gallery Passport and collect stamps or signatures from staff at each participating business. Visitors who reach five locations can submit their flyer for a chance to win an original painting by a local artist. Photos of completed passports can be sent to christine.macey@alexandriava.gov.
