ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A driver drove a vehicle into a building in the 600 block of King Street on Friday afternoon, and Alexandria police closed several streets in Old Town as a result, the department said.
APD posted on its official social media account at 2:10 p.m. that the 600 block of King Street was closed following the crash. The department said northbound Washington Street between Prince and Cameron streets and westbound King Street between St. Asaph and Washington streets were also closed. Southbound Washington Street remained open. The department asked drivers to avoid the area.
APD posted at 3:31 p.m. that all roadways related to the crash had reopened.
As of publication, APD had not released information about injuries, the driver's condition, the status of anyone in or near the building, or the cause of the crash. The Alexandria Brief has asked the department for additional details.
It is the second crash on King Street that APD has publicly announced this week. Early Thursday morning, the department announced a crash in which a driver struck a man walking on the 2200 block of King Street — several blocks west, in a different part of the city — late Wednesday night. The victim in that crash was in stable condition, APD said Thursday, and the driver, who initially left the scene, returned.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
