Firefighters extricate person from vehicle after Duke Street crash

Alexandria firefighters extricated one person from a vehicle and transported them to a trauma center after a crash on Duke Street Tuesday evening, according to police and the city’s firefighters union.

Police shut down westbound Duke Street between North Ripley Street and South Reynolds Street around 7 p.m. after the crash, which occurred near the intersection of Duke and South Reynolds streets.

Rescue 209 extricated one patient from a passenger vehicle, and Medic 208 transported one patient to an area trauma center, IAFF Local 2141 said in an Instagram post.

Photos posted to social media showed multiple Alexandria firefighters surrounding a sedan with significant front-end damage, including a crumpled hood and a shattered windshield. A fire engine and stretcher were visible at the scene.

The street reopened less than an hour later, police said.

The condition of the person involved was not immediately available. No additional details were released.
