ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The Old Town Run Club will host its first Commodore-to-Commodore Run on Saturday, June 6 — a 9-mile fundraiser that doubles as a welcome for the new Commodore Old Town and a fundraising push for the club's September 9/11 Remembrance Run.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. at The Commodore in Dupont Circle, where runners will gather for a group photo and a celebratory drink before heading south. Three groups — a walking group and two running groups — will depart at staggered intervals and reconvene at The Commodore Old Town for a finish-line celebration.
Registration is $30 and includes a complimentary beer at each end of the route, plus 10 percent off food purchases at the Old Town finish. Runners who register by May 24 also receive a dry-fit shirt.
A fundraiser for September
Proceeds from the June 6 run will fund the club's 9/11 Remembrance Run in September — a 485-mile relay from Shanksville, Pa., through the Pentagon and ending at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. The Old Town Run Club, a 501(c)(3) based in Alexandria, runs the September event each year as a fundraiser for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which provides mortgage-free homes to catastrophically injured veterans, first responders, Gold Star families, and the families of fallen first responders.
Runners are encouraged to seek pledges per mile from friends and family, or to direct flat donations through the race page.
Welcoming the Commodore
The June 6 run is one of several recent Old Town Run Club events to lean on The Commodore, which opened its second location in Old Town on March 12. The club has already made the new pub at 220 N. Lee St. its weekly Saturday morning meet-up; the Commodore-to-Commodore is its first formal recognition of the company's footprint on both sides of the river.
